God's heart for Mexico

It's already been a week here in the district Atizipan, neighborhood Mexico Nuevo. We've ridden buses, Omar & Richard have been to the amazing market, played football, performed our skits, visited with Israel (our new friend we met at the Wednesday market) and gone through 2 huge packs of toilet paper! What an adventure!!

Our host church family is amazing, Pastor Xavier is so helpful and passionate to lead his fellow countrymen to Christ. This week we cleaned a local park and hung up signs around that said, 'A clean park is good but a clean heart is best! 2 Cor. 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."' Pastor Xavier was able to talk with two men that passed by and were wondering what and why we were doing this. Then on Wednesday we met Israel at the market, we went to perform our dramas and after walked around starting up conversations and asking if we could pray for people.

Israel was especially excited because he knew a fair amount of English and could practice with us. Later that afternoon we visited him at his house, spent 3 hours hearing about his life and showing him different scriptures in the Bible. He was in a car accident when he was 21 years old and had nerve damage, so he now talks with short pauses and walks on and off between a wheelchair. He was especially excited to have visitors as he expressed how he was lonely often and he desired to get married but "no woman wants me," as he said. Telling his story, he expressed that he was often treated badly by others, they think that if he can't walk he's not good for anything. Earlier that day, he was proud to speak English with us because after the ones around him were impressed at his knowledge. It was a good time of encouraging him but even more we were encouraged and blessed. This accident hasn't hindered him from living, he just desired friends among him.

Another highlight has been going to a high school. There are so many young people here that they have school schedules in shifts- the first shift is 7am-2pm and the other is 2pm-9pm. We visited outside the school campus right before one shift was released and the other started. Renisse and I met Thelma and Daniela, 16 and 15 years old. They were full of energy and totally interested in what we were doing there. They were waiting for one of their boyfriends to be released from school. The cloud of navy blue uniforms appeared shortly after 2pm and Thelma quickly found her boyfriend, small greetings and they pulled back from the group and began kissing. That's a normal occurrence here, we were shocked the first couple sightings. A couple of their friends came and we met Miguelangel. A high student with a cigarette in hand, the rosary hanging around his neck, laughing...and the question came, "what's that in your hand?" I was holding some tracks and the Gospel of John and Romans in booklets. Renisse began to share some of her testimony with Miguelangel. He was attentive and a few times we had some blimps in translation to Spanish but it was powerful. We ended sharing Jesus with him...he said that it was a lot to think about. We pray over that seed that was planted deep in his heart, that it would sprout and he would believe.

Please be praying that Mexicans would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, not religion but Him in relation. Please pray for the health of our team too. The cooler weather has taken a toll and also Charles has an infection. A minor "surgery" was performed last night by Dr. Richard, Nurse Mike came to the rescue. Charles is okay just wanting the infection to heal up quickly that we could complete what we came here to do.

La Ciudad de Mexico

Hola!!
32 hours, bare amounts of sleep, AC, peanut butter and jelly, TACOS, some motion sickness and Wayne's flu symptoms put to music....WE'RE HERE!! So happy, couldn't describe the excitement when we got off the bus and stepped on solid ground.
We have two of the most wonderful hosts, Pastor Xavier and Mary Miranda and Iglesia Cristiana Israel. We were met by Megacities coordinators, took taxis to the hosting church and had a warm meal.
We jumped in early on Sunday morning, having breakfast with the church leadership team. We were ecstatic to meet Carrill and Antonio (a VERY YOUNG couple- they're our age, lol). Antonio translated for us as Charles and Omar shared briefly in the church that morning.
Then in the afternoon, we joined a group of hermanos from the church to celebrate Xavier's birthday. It was so great!! Everyone enjoyed themselves and we got to learn more about our new friends and partners.
Our hosts are very mission minded too- they served several years in Oaxaca, Mexico. They have another church plant within the city here and are active in evangelism. Its a blessing- we feel so honored to be sharing this time in Mexico with them!

Tomorrow we will join Megacities groups in the different districts for corporate worship and a time to share testimonies of what God is doing all around the city.

Please pray for team unity and safety as we travel through the city! Also, we are still standing in faith for God to provide $500 usd to complete the D.R. portion of our outreach.

Investing into the future!

Over these past 2 days, we've wet our feet in Belize City. It was an amazing experience, despite all the warnings of being careful! We attended church on West Street, Church of God, and served with Ms. Sharon Arthurs. She is a (former) YWAMer, missionary, passionate woman and feisty fighter for the truth. A men's committee of Belize City along with Ms. Sharon organized a boys conference for Monday and Tuesday. Standard 4, 5 & 6 (grades 6, 7 & 8) boys were invited from various schools to gather and be encouraged as 'men' and the future leaders of Belize. Our DTS and leading men in the community led these two hour periods with dramas, testimonies and words to stir this next generation of leaders to choose rightly. Kevan Guzman, a student from 2009 DTS, spoke of his positive choice to change his school, change his campus and change Belize- NOT them changing him.

We are proud of this DTS. They have really stepped up and received God's heart for this city. They amazed us with their skits and jumping at the challenge to encourage young men to stand against the violence and be SOMEONE positive.
We launch from Belmopan on Thursday, Oct. 7th, for our journey to Mexico City. Please be praying for us as we travel and also for one more student's funds. She will be joining us in Mexico when everything comes through, by the grace of God!

Last day of lecture phase...

The official last day to lecture phase...the week was filled with different 3 different speakers, a full schedule of work duties, a needed movie to shake hearts and attitudes, a bit of tears, frustrations, joys and finally today- PEACE!!
After the treacherous decisions- we have decided that GOD REALLY IS BIG ENOUGH!! This Sunday evening we head to Belize City, spend 3 days working with children. DTS will come back to the base on Wednesday afternoon and gear up to leave Thursday afternoon to Mexico City, as of now, 6 or 7 students will be going to Mexico. Elizabeth is needing God to do a miracle to see this part of outreach a reality for her. (if you would like to invest in Elizabeth's life with this outreach, please contact us via email to sow your seeds***).
Our schedule is packed. We'll embark on our 30 hour bus trip...working with Megacities in one of the city's regions. Our ministry will begin by reading the whole Bible- making declarations over the city and believing God for the supernatural. We'll be introduced to a church or two and work to make new connections to other ministries/Christians/churches while we declare God's rescuing heart over this region.
After three weeks, our team will split...2 back to Belize and 4 onto the Dominican Republic. We'll attend YWAM's 50th Anniversary Celebration Conference. YWAM's founders, Loren and Darlene Cunningham, will be speaking along with other leaders and pioneers of this mission and Caribbean region. There will be lots of vision as we peer into YWAM's past and look onto our future!
Please pray with us in these next weeks, We need God's hand to move- the team is still in need of about $6,000us to see the 4 students go to the DR and the others to finish their outreach in Belize
-TEAM UNITY
-God's favor as we travel
-this weekend's outreach to Belize City!
Blessings to all!!
