Hi from the Myries!!
Oh, sunny Belize…right now the air is filled with the smell of fresh cut lawns- the only time that Green Bay and Belize have some commonalities.
Well, we officially kicked off Discipleship Training School 2008 with a bang! Omar and I being the new directors, have quite a different outlook -we’re leaning on Jesus! Within the first week- God was faithful to point out things in the lives of these young people that He wants them to surrender- what He’s dreaming for them to aspire. It’s amazing to see the reasons these students choose this time in their life to know God more. I couldn’t be more proud of them for sacrificing what they have. Its fun getting to know each person…(5 girls and one guy, aww).
Have to tell you this story-God told us to go to South America for outreach. We asked God by gathering together with the students and praying for His guidance and direction- then separately we wrote on a piece of paper which area each person felt God was saying. As we read each paper, all six students choose South America- that’s a 1 in 729 chance! What a blessing to see God speaking to all of us. So, we’ll be traveling to Chile and Argentina.
Our Legacy Youth conference was this past weekend- the DTS students jumped in to serve. For this conference we had one afternoon of “missions.” Students come to receive God’s heart but we wanted to provide a time for them to put feet to the impartation they were hearing. There were 7 different groups- all did some physical labor (character building!) and then evangelism. Some groups helped 2 different families in the village- one lady with 7 kids, ages 9 and younger. We also went to some orphanages and put on puppet skits for them, helped with building a church, served at a Christian radio station and everyone talked to others about Jesus.
This was a big step for some young people- knocking on neighbors’ doors and asking them if we can pray for them can be intimidating- we were blessed to see the youth embrace this experience. Radical teens!
We had 4 of our youth from youth group attend Legacy. It proved to be a wonderful experience for them- 2 of our youth prayed with a young adult in the village to commit her life to Christ. I was thrilled to hear this and it boosted their faith in God. To have God use them in such a way makes Him that much bigger in their minds. Who says God isn’t involved in our daily life!
We’ve seen the blessings of God this month and believing for more miracles!
Prayer Points:
· DTS students- openness to allow God to transform their hearts for His Kingdom
· Joshua Generation (youth group)- that they would notice God’s hand in their daily lives and the excitement they felt at the youth conference would continue in their life.
· Pray for more YWAM DTS Staff for next year- we’re already brainstorming ideas
· God’s hand over us- protection and sound minds as our responsibilities increase
· Outreach
o Finances- we want to see $4,000 USD for our outreach to Chile and Argentina, South America
o Preparation for our team- that our hearts would be ready for what God will have us do.
Be Blessed! Hope to hear from you all! We love to receive emails- just so you know...
Love,
Omar & Alyssa
